Mak Pack: Exceptional Care, Endless Growth

Spencer and Lauren Mak’s passion for animals and dedication to outstanding service inspired their journey into the pet care industry. What began as at-home dog training quickly evolved into in-home boarding services. Their reputation for exceptional care grew rapidly, leading to the opening of their first pet resort in Tempe, AZ, in 2020. This facility offered a range of services, including overnight boarding, daycare and training.

Building on the success of their Tempe location, Spencer and Lauren opened a state-of-the-art facility in Chandler, AZ, in 2022. This larger space featured Arizona’s first indoor dog park—a massive 30,000-square-foot haven for pets. Both facilities were designed as indoor-only to ensure a safe environment during Arizona’s intense heat.

“From day one, our goal was to create an all-inclusive experience for pets and their owners,” Spencer Mak reflected. “It’s been incredibly fulfilling to see our vision come to life.”

Their dedication didn’t go unnoticed. Mak Pack earned multiple accolades, including recognition as one of Phoenix’s top destinations for dog training and the prestigious Best of the Valley award in 2024 for their boarding services and dog park.

New Horizons: A Shift in Priorities

Initially envisioning a lifelong commitment to managing their business, Spencer and Lauren’s growing family and changing priorities prompted a reevaluation. With the arrival of their daughter, they sought a new path that balanced their love for pet care with their evolving personal goals.

To ensure Mak Pack’s legacy continued, they partnered with the PET|VET team to sell their brand. “Working with PET|VET was one of our best decisions,” said Spencer. “Their expertise and support made the process seamless. We achieved top value for our business and felt confident its future was in great hands.”

The sale allowed Spencer and Lauren to transition smoothly, enabling Spencer to remain actively involved in the pet care industry—a priority for him. Now, he operates on a larger scale, using his expertise to make a greater impact. “No matter where you are in your business journey—whether you’re looking to step away entirely or simply delegate certain responsibilities—Pet Vet can help you find a solution that benefits both the seller and the buyer,” Spencer remarked.

The Next Chapter: Expanding Impact in Dog Training

As Spencer and Lauren embrace new beginnings, Spencer has taken on an exciting role with the national company that acquired Mak Pack. He now leads their nationwide dog training programs, developing innovative and humane training methods that benefit both dogs and their owners.

This role aligns perfectly with his passion for creating sustainable, profitable training models that are not dependent on key personnel. By designing programs that prioritize both client satisfaction and canine well-being, Spencer aims to shape the future of dog training on a national scale.

As they embark on this new journey, Spencer and Lauren remain proud of their accomplishments with Mak Pack. Their story is a testament to their dedication and vision, leaving a lasting legacy in the pet care industry. “We’re deeply grateful for everything we’ve achieved and look forward to the future, both for our family and Mak Pack,” Spencer shared.
