Barbara Butler has been a trusted name in Branford, Connecticut’s pet care community for nearly four decades. Since taking ownership of Shoreline Pet Lodge in 1987, she has poured her heart into building a business grounded in compassion, consistency, and truly personalized care.

Situated on 5.47 acres, the property featured a 6,208 SF facility offering overnight boarding, daycare, and bathing services. With room for more than 100 pets—including over 100 runs and enclosures—Shoreline was thoughtfully designed to deliver comfort and calm. Feline guests enjoyed peaceful stays in 12 private suites located near Barbara’s on-site home, reinforcing the “family first” approach that defined her philosophy.

“For me, it was never just about running a business—it was about creating a place where pets felt safe, loved, and truly at home. That philosophy shaped everything we did, year after year.”

Preparing a Business—and Its Owner—for What’s Next

Over the years, Barbara built a capable and reliable team that kept Shoreline running smoothly. Her daughter, Colleen, played a behind-the-scenes role—managing everything from schedules and supplies to marketing—before ultimately training the staff to run independently. By the time Barbara was ready to step away, Shoreline was operating like a well-oiled machine, perfectly positioned for new ownership.
